Pileated Woodpecker

Nice one, Laura. I envy you, because my local Pileateds have deserted me. I guess having Red-shouldered Hawks nesting next to my yard for a couple years made them decide to find a safer place to visit.

Laura Frazier says:

It’s funny, the one Pileated that lives in my neighborhood tends to hang out in my brother’s yard 99% of the time, while all the others love my yard! I’ve missed my White-crowned Sparrows that I usually get – I only saw them a couple times when they are usually around constantly. I think the mild winter confused all the birds, but the predators definitely keep them away too! Hopefully your Pileateds will return.

Wonderful image, Had a pair coming to the feeder for over eight years, then gone for four years, Now see a pair on occasion, Love taking photos of them on my suit feeder, Dave in Maine

Gabriel Ricketts says:

Laura I deal with the same problem!! I have a pair of Pileated woodpeckers that really like my yard but they like my neighbors feeders better. Great job on capturing this picture!!
