Unusual feathers & bills
Bald Headed Blue Jay
Hi Dee:
Molting! Birds have three main high energy requirements. Migrating, breeding and molting and they usually do not occur at the same time. Now that birds have bred for the summer most are molting (getting new feathers) at this time. That is why this blue jay looks this way, it is getting new feathers. Hope this helps.
