Description

While driving through Finley National Wildlife Refuge, I noticed this egret just off the road and on point, its neck stretched out completely and its body poised for an attack. Little did I know, the egret was totally focused on a rodent for its meal. It took but an instant for the egret to break its pose and snag the rodent with that sharp, pointed bill! I recorded the scene with a sequence of photos and felt very fortunate to have witnessed this. I usually associate the egret diet with things from the water, so it was a great lesson to learn at close range that egrets also eat rodents! I might add, that it didn’t take long for the egret to consume its catch!
