I had set up a temporary photo blind under a tree on some family property, without a clue as to what might show up. Early one morning, I noted movement, and saw that a male Belted Kingfisher had landed in one of the branches. As I began to observe him, I was able to watch as, over and over, he crashed the water’s surface, grabbed a fish, and raced back to his branch.

In this shot, he played with his catch a little before gobbling it right down!
