Description

I took this photo in Haddam Meadows State Park in October 2012. That summer the regulars at this spot on the Connecticut River included Herons (Blue and Green), Osprey, Eagles, Red-tail Hawks, and Turkey Vultures. It was fun to see so many large birds.

Life On The Edge

A Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) on the sand bar at low tide in the Connecticut River. Behind it is a trail of feathers. The feathers are what remained after a juvenile Bald Eagle had killed and plucked its breakfast - most likely a Ring-billed Gull.
