This is certainly the largest feathered friend ever to have graced our feeder 🙂 We have only seen a pileated woodpecker in our backyard at a distance on one occasion this past summer; but to find this friend flying in to sample some suet at our front yard feeder was certainly a Christmas treat!! While we love to see the downy woodpeckers and one red bellied woodpecker that visit on a daily basis, we were very excited to see “Big Red” today. This photo was taken at our kitchen window looking out at our unexpected visitor and newest friend.
