Solitary Eastern Blue Jay found our feeding station, and has been in our orchard and vicinity for a couple of weeks. He ferries peanuts to hiding places throughout the orchard, but finds time to explore the area in bigger and bigger boundaries. Our local Wild Birds tells us that they do make regular small incursions into NM, but so far have not chosen to stay and establish nesting sites.

Travelling Eastern Blue KJay

Eastern Blue Jay, made a long trek to New Mexico, but is enjoying the peanuts, fresh water, and turf all to himself. Sibleys shows these birds as rare in the Rio Grande corridor, and this individual has come to visit.
