I was pleased while watching birds at my feeders to see this cardinal switch to eating red berries off a firebush, right in time for this week’s contest. I had despaired of finding a natural feeding shot and thought I’d have to hike far from my feeders, but got this at my usual feederwatch perch at the dining room table.
Week 5: Natural Foods
Even in a winter storm, picking a berry off a "vine" can be more satisfying than feeders full of seeds and peanuts!
