Description

I struggled to find just one photo that summarizes why our backyard is bird-friendly. In the end, it’s all about creating moments like this one shared between a mother oriole and her new fledgling.

We have numerous native plantings including four varieties of serviceberries and countless native flowers. We provide fresh water year-round. We have specialized feeders including several orange and jelly feeders for the orioles. We have a sheltered yard protected by a cedar fence. We provide nesting materials.

It’s the cumulative effect of these simple ideas that has made our yard a haven for the birds, and in turn a haven for us as well.

A Mother’s Love

Atop our backyard fence, a female oriole feeds some grape jelly to her young fledgling.
