Last winter was very harsh here in Indiana and I tried to keep high fat foods out to help the birds weather the storms. Imagine my surprise when one evening I looked out the windows to see a group of Horned Larks snacking on the cracked corn I laid out.

I saw a flock of approximately 6 or 7 fly into the yard and sit in the branches of our ash tree and then fly out again. This happened two days in a row around 3 in the afternoon. They are cute and distinctive because of the black stripe near the eye and the horns above their heads. They never returned but it was fun to see them.
