American Goldfinch – Carduelis tristis (centre) and House Finches – Carpodacus mexicanus. I think the American Goldfinch is confusing “tristis (the Latin word for sad) with “tryst” (a romantic rendezvous). The female House Finch, on the other hand, is the one looking a tad “tristis”!!
