I happened to see these two male Northern Flickers bobbing heads in a territorial display, and then was lucky to catch them on camera as they flew up and confronted each other in the air.

In January 2018, I saw the same behavior in southern Alberta, Canada from our dining room window. The flickers were facing off on the backyard fence, first bobbing their heads then flying up and confronting one another just as the photo above shows. The display went on for several minutes but not long enough to get the camera.
I saw two flickers bobbing and weaving at each other around my bird bath for half an hour and then flying at each other on the ground and on the trunk of the tree but it was getting dark and then I couldn’t see them very well. I think one flew away. It was very interesting to see. I live in Langley BC Canada
