A common visitor to hummingbird feeders, the Red-billed streamertail (Trochilus polytmus) (aka Doctor bird) is endemic to Jamaica, where it is the national bird. It was described in Ian Fleming’s James Bond short story” For Your Eyes Only”, as “The most beautiful bird in Jamaica, and some say the most beautiful bird in the world”. The native Arawaks called it the ‘God bird’, believing it was the reincarnation of dead souls.
