The feeder in use is one that normally attracts House Finches, Tufted Titmice and Carolina Wrens. The largest bird it has visit normally is a Northern Cardinal. When the Black-hooded Parakeets (12″ long) come swooping down in a flock looking for food they just take what they want, however they can manage it. You can hear them coming, very raucous and chattery, for a sample go to Cornell’s Macaulay Library of bird sounds and listen to a Nanday Parakeet.

A Black-hooded Parakeet (Nandayus nenday) visited one of our feeders. These birds can be a foot long so he had to hold on at the side to feed on the black oil sunflower seeds.
