Description

An immature Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Archilochus colubris, drinks in the nectar of a favorite flower, the black and blue salvia. Although only one bloom remains, there is no limit to the amount of nectar this beautiful Ruby-throated Hummingbird will obtain from this lovely bloom all while balancing in flight. The early morning sun reflects through those lovely wings that beat approximately 50-53 times a second. The beautiful Ruby-throated Hummingbirds are eastern North America’s only breeding hummingbird.
