Description

As I started a stroll down the Bark Haul Trail in the Fannie Stebbins Wildlife Refuge in Longmeadow, MA, my attention was captured by some movement overhead by the side of the trail. I quickly spotted this Ruby-throated Hummingbird fluttering above from side to side before settling down what I thought was just an outgrowth on the branch. Then I realized it was a tiny nest she constructed of lichens and moss and held together with spider webs.
