Description

I was photographing the Pileated Woodpecker on the peanut butter suet feeder when the Downy Woodpecker dropped down from a sugar maple branch to the feeder’s opposite side. I thought the Pileated would chase the Downy away, but she didn’t. I thought it quite a rarity to be able to photograph Ohio’s smallest and largest woodpecker feeding simultaneously on the same feeder.

Just love this photo. Lot’s of both in Virginia but not so many Downys here in FL.

I love it! I got a not-quite-mirror shot one time of a Downy & a Hairy, but the difference here is so much greater!
