Description

They’re not juniper berries, but this thrush–which is so infrequently seen here in the Metro Vancouver Area that it actually necessitated filing of a rare bird sighting–clearly isn’t finicky when it comes to winter food sources.

This Townsend’s Solitaire (another bird for my life list) materialized on our front lawn pyracantha bush on December 9, but it required two more visits more a week later to finally get proof of this handsome thrush on December 18, 2015. An early Christmas present!

The pyracantha pommes ripened extra early this winter, and, with the 6-8 American Robins who also showed up regularly to dine with this Townsend’s Solitaire, it took less than three weeks to deplete the bright orange berries.
