Description

A male Anna’s hummingbird ignores the rain and buzzes up into an early-morning thread of light to reveal that gorgeous head. My favorite photo.

Wet Anna’s At Dawn

the big surprise here is that this frame even survived. I nearly deleted it before I noticed a hint of lavender that appeared in focus. And sure enough this Anna's hummingbird emerged into a sliver of the dawn's early light and he became the first hummingbird ever to find focus through my battered and broken old Kodak POS. It's still my favorite to this day because it was such a wonderful surprise to see him. I shot it standing on the sofa, and shooting down through a window as a rain storm was giving way to the sunshine creeping over the Sierras. Pure luck, but luck is fine.
