Description

I lived in my car for most of the year in 2016, birding across the country and in Alaska doing a Big Year. While in Nome, Alaska (which I couldn’t drive to) the Long-tailed Jaegers were a constant staple overhead, gracefully flying overhead and defending their turf against dogs and people. We came to know these birds fairy well as they often boldly dove at us while we carefully scanned the tundra for nesting shorebirds and raptors, to submit accurate numbers to eBird.

Long-tailed Jaeger

Graceful Long-tailed Jaegers fly overhead around Nome, Alaska- fiercely feeding on any young birds they can capture!
