My wife was able to get some nice photos of a Nutmeg Mannikin that showed up in our yard along with the House Finches. He stayed for about 15 minutes and has not been seen since.

This beautiful finch took cover from heat and sun in a poinsettia plants on my deck two days ago – perfect camouflage! Finally identified it as a rare and exotic bird in Sibley’s Guide to Birds. A birder friend confirmed my identification – noting that a couple years ago he had seen 3 of them near a lake in San Luis Obispo, CA..
