Description

On Saturday I watched as this young drake Wood Duck captured this frog and devoured it whole. Growing young Wood Ducks require more energy from food than adults and therefore tend to feed more often. The young Wood Duck’s diet is typically a mix of vegetation, insects and small invertebrates and is primarily influenced by habitat and opportunity. I suspect this frog just showed up in the wrong place at the wrong time. Photographed from a blind at Brick Pond Wetland Preserve in Owego, NY.
