Description

It was at the end of September and the temperature got up to 77 degrees. A friend had suggested making a fountain by using a garden hose so I set one up on a ladder and settled back to watch. It was an instant hit, with birds taking turns to have a shower. This little ruby-throated hummingbird waited until the Northern cardinals, Carolina wren, gray catbird had bathed and then came in. A rival male came by and tried to drive him off but he wouldn’t be deterred. He came for a shower for a couple days in addition to filling up on nectar.

Ah, That Feels So Good!
