Crescent Beach, Surrey, BC, Canada

Description

This wonderfully contrasting sandpiper is a year round resident here on the coasts of Vancouver, BC and surrounding areas. These birds feed on clamped tight shells with their special beaks. The process here is to probe into the sand finding the shellfish and then with surgical precision, pry the shell open and extract the good parts. Once at the surface, a quick rinse, two flicks and…… dinner. Faster than Gordon Ramsay with a good Shell Shucker I’d say.
