Description

A recent visit to South Florida in January 2018 included many birding hot spots, including Audubon’s Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary east of Naples, Florida. As a Midwesterner, I had never seen a Painted Bunting, and within 10 minutes of arriving at this fabulous nature preserve, I was treated to seeing this amazingly colorful species. They are regular visitors at the feeding station there. The male looks like he has played in a box of melted crayons. I can’t think of another North American bird that epitomizes the Bold, Bright, and Beautiful theme better. This fellow is all puffed up and fluffing his rainbow feathers because a heavy rain shower had just moved through the area.

Beautiful! Hope to see one someday…definitely bold, bright and beautiful…thanks for sharing.

Ha! I had to chuckle at your comment because every time I see a photo of a painted bunting it makes me think of crayons. Bold, Bright & Beautiful, a whole rainbow in one little package.
