The first of two flocks of Sandhill Cranes that on Dec. 31st eyed my backyard floodplain as a potential pitstop as they most likely followed the Harpeth River to winter in peace at Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge near Chattanooga, Tennessee. Seeing and hearing them was the best way to end 2017!
