I was photographing shorebirds at Horicon Marsh, in Horicon, WI when I noticed a large white bird in the air headed my way but at quite a distance. I thought at first it was a heron and dismissed it — that is until it was about 200 feet away. That’s when I aimed the camera at the crane and shot as many photos as possible before it passed overhead.

I photographed this Whooping Crane as it was flying over Horicon Marsh in Horicon, WI in May 2015. The cranes have been reintroduced into the area.
