On a birding tour in India we went to see village where the residents put out grain twice a day for the population of Demoiselle cranes that wintered there. It was amazing to see them all congregate in one field and eventually all migrate to the adjacent field where the villagers had laid out the grain. Seeing hundreds of cranes flying at once and positioning themselves for a safe landing was incredible.
