Description

Cooper’s Hawks visit our yard fairly frequently and a blue jay family usually lets us know when one is there. On a rainy afternoon, I heard the jays raising a ruckus. The rain had stopped and I went outside to see why they were so upset. I found this damp, fluffed up immature Cooper’s Hawk perched on the fence drying its feathers. Being in tune with the behavior of my backyard birds helped make this close encounter.
