I get a kick out of watching the hummingbirds jostle for ownership of the hummingbird feeder on our patio. They appear to burn more calories chasing each other away than they can possibly consume. In this photo, taken last July on my patio, this male and female both discovered they were perched on the feeder at the same time. It didn’t take long before the female took wing and aggressively reminded him of the ‘pecking order’. She practically knocked him off his perch.
