Description

Towards the end of the summer, a group of Common Grackles took up residence in our yard. For about a week, these birds swarmed our feeders and drove the other birds away. This photo captures an iconic moment when two Grackles were fighting over who would get access to the peanuts. Since this is a weight-sensitive feeder, there really was only a place for one of them at a time! Hunger Games, indeed. I guess there’s only one thing left to say: “May the odds be ever in your favor!”

Grackle Hunger Games

Two Grackles vying over access to a peanut feeder. The left Grackle is mid landing with wings flared. The right Grackle is perched on the feeder with head turned up eyeing the other.
