Description

Visiting the local community gardens, I saw this young Red-tailed Hawk perched on a fence and decided to photograph it. As I was pushing the shutter button, the bird spotted me and took off, allowing me to get an image much more dramatic than initially planned. When I look at this photo, the powerful legs pushing off and the wide chest extending to unfold the wings bring to mind the image of a swimmer entering the water at the start of a race.
