Seeing the American Avocet in full breeding plumage is always a privilege for me. This long-legged wader with a curved, upturned bill strikes the balance of elegance and beauty. The three in the picture flew into the area I was sitting completely oblivious to my presence. The sights and sounds of this close-up encounter leave a peaceful memory of a quiet and still morning.
