Taken Nov 2017 at Maui island lavender farm. The next year the I’iwi was named 2018 ABA Bird of the Year 2018! I struggled to get a good photo of my favorite Hawaiian bird the day before in Haleakala National Park, and this beauty landed 10 ft away at eye level.
Elevation taken is under 6000 ft meaning this pour soul probably passed on from avian malaria or pox (mosquito).
