A female ruby-throated hummingbird sipping from a Rose of Sharon bush in our yard. Though she lacks the red gorget the males boast, she’s still a beautiful, shimmery emerald from behind, with hints of rust a white. I found it interesting that she only drank from the base of flower, where the petals attached to the stem.
