Description

Five years of following Yardmap Habitat Network guidance! Five years of sourcing quality native seeds, fighting invasives and protecting every downed tree and snag. This wonderful red-headed woodpecker is such a rare treat in my area. I first spotted it on the platform feeder but the second I opened the door to get a photograph it flew up to the dying ash tree where it posed for a photo.
In the five years living in this habitat I have seen more than 125 unique species either visit or flyover. Whether it is a rare sighting such as this, or seeing a small flock of field sparrows in the broomsedge I am motivated to build to continue my restoration efforts, not just here at home, but in public spaces where we can teach guests the incredible power of native habitats.
