| Scarlet Tanager by Gina Harmeyer|
Congratulations to our BirdSpotter People’s Choice winner for Category 3, Cardinals and Friends: Gina Harmeyer of Kalamazoo, MI! Gina received the most votes for this Scarlet Tanager perched on her feeder pole.
Scarlet Tanagers are a secretive species. They spend most of their time in the tree tops. The best chance you have to see Scarlet Tanagers is by providing native, berry-producing shrubs in your yard. They like to visit many kinds including blackberries, raspberries, huckleberries, juneberries, serviceberries, mulberries, strawberries, and chokeberries.
Submissions are open now for the fourth BirdSpotter category Beautiful Blues and Grays! Submit your photo of any bird with blue or gray feathers by midnight Eastern Time on Thursday, January 2, 2020 for a chance to win. These winners will be announced on Friday, January 10, and will be entered into the Grand Prize contest along with other weekly winners. Biweekly People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice winners receive prizes from the Cornell Lab and our sponsor, Wild Birds Unlimited. Anyone can participate by entering a photo and voting for their favorites! Find out more about the BirdSpotter contest.
