Congratulations to our BirdSpotter People’s Choice winner Mary Moilanen, of Ann Arbor, MI, for this great photo of a Carolina Wren! The wren came to her feeders last summer and she took this shot as it snatched up a piece from her suet feeder.
Carolina Wrens are widespread across the Eastern US and they have been wintering farther and farther north in the past few decades. They will often come to feeders and, during cold northern winters, will take shelter in nest boxes containing dried grasses.
Monday, January 29th, is the first day to submit a photo to the BirdSpotter category Bold, Bright, and Beautiful. Biweekly People’s Choice and Judges’ Choice winners receive prizes from the Cornell Lab and our sponsor, Wild Birds Unlimited. Anyone can participate by entering a photo and voting for their favorites! Find out more about the BirdSpotter contest.
