Description

I have been following this Anna’s hummingbird’s nest since she laid the first egg. They now look almost ready to leave the nest and I’m guessing when i visit the nest on the 26th they will be gone. It has been a wonderful experience to witness this miracle, going from the first egg on May 19th to almost fledging on June 24th.

I have kept my distance using a 600 mm lens and she seems content to allow my presence, feeding on a regular schedule of 30 to 45 minutes. Amazingly the Anna’s hummingbirds stay in Nanaimo all year even though we get some snow and subzero Celsius temperatures most winters. Occasionally we see them during the winter sitting on snow covered branches, which looks so wrong.
