Hi Andree – This is a Common Redpoll – they frequently sit in snow like this. Nice find!
Many thanks Holly Faulkner, Project Assistant for your ACCURATE OBSERVATION, The Common Redpolls,, have been so frequent.. and even if the picture was not clear I assumed it was a Dark eyed junco.. I, have observed,, many of them.. digging in the snow..and making digs.. The top of the garden shed is about.. 12 feet high and had about 3 feet of snow on top.. and the bird.. actually snugged a long time..

In 2022, which I assume is another year of Irruption. Many Common Redpoll bird’s, might have had older bird’s, remember that I had fed them ony garden shed. Many Redpolls, landed on it, throughout seeking seeds, the signs, show, that some, remembered It. Seasons later. The ” Irruptions” were earlier on 2022. Much earlier. But, some bird’s, Common Redpolls insisted on the investigation of previously fed marks .
