The buntings–along with the orioles and grosbeaks–are migrators that arrived at the same time. I’ve been trying hard to get good photos of all of them in the limited time that they will be around.

Gorgeous! What type of camera lens do you have?
It’s not so much the camera. I just use a point-and-shoot Panasonic with super-zoom lens. BUT, I spend a lot of time and effort to get myself within 6 feet of the birds (or to get the birds to come within 6 feet of me), which I’ve found is the key to getting really high resolution photos.

I lived most of my life in Chicago, where we had sparrows, pigeons, sea gulls, starlings, and very little else. So having moved to rural Tennessee in retirement, I’ve been blown away all the different birds that come through my yard…about 65 different species.
