This CA Scrub Jay may be a 2021 youngster raised in our yard by attentive parents. This individual swooped down onto the sidewalk, chortled to itself, then hopped over into the planted bed, turned it’s head almost upside down looking for snails tucked under the bottom of house siding boards, scored twice in just a few minutes. When it plucked a snail, it hopped back over to the sidewalk with it’s prize and gobbled it down. It didn’t care that my two dogs and I were within feet of this activity. It feels safe in our yard. Protein feast! Best garden snail control ever. Photo taken 2-6-2022 IMOBY (In My Own BackYard)
