I walked across my yard on ice to take this photo as the day before he killed a Dove in the yard. He was making a noise I have never heard as he sat watching me and the feeders.
Predatory birds
Not happy wings wet and icy Cooper’s Hawk
Greetings, great photos, but I believe you saw an immature Red-tailed Hawk instead of a Cooper’s. Check your field guide and compare the tail length and breast streaking of the immature of each species. Also, the white “V” pattern on the back of the bird is exclusive to Red-tailed and would not be found on Cooper’s.
