Description

We’ve had many Dark-eyed Juncos at the feeders this winter, and have been amazed at the variety of their plumages. This little guy is the oddest: a patchwork quilt of brown, chestnut, gray, black and white. (Photo by Bernie Paquette, my partner and fellow bird-enjoyer.)

I am on the western end of the Keweenaw Peninsula in Upper Michigan and have a flock with two mottled birds; the mottling is pure white, mainly on the face with some streaks on body. This same flock has some birds with pure white upper tail coverts.
