Description

With the annual hummingbird migration begun, hummer-lovers are getting antsy. (Or at least I am.) So, I thought I would share a few tips and tricks I’ve found.
TO ATTRACT MORE HUMMINGBIRDS:
1. Get more feeders.
2. Get larger feeders.
3. Provide natural food sources such as insects and flowers.
4. Set up perches. (Trees count).
5. Provide shelter and a place to nest. (Again, trees work great.)
TO GET RID OF PESTS:
1. Get an ant moat.
2. Get bee guards.
3. Only use red. (Bees are attracted to yellow but color blind to red.)
4. Add baffles. (If raccoons, squirrels, or mice are a problem.)
5. Get a feeder with smaller holes. (Allowing access for hummingbirds but not other birds, bugs, and pests.)
OTHER:
1. Use dish/saucer feeders rather than tube feeders.
2. Plant a garden.
3. Get a bubbling birdbath or mister. (Birds are attracted to running water.)
4. Place feeders far away from any possible predators and pests (such as ants, bees, cats, and raptors).
5. Prolong the life of your nectar. (Put feeders in the shade)
