Description

I have not been able to identify this bird. It looks like some sort of hawk with dark plumage and white on the back of its head and brown around the back of the neck. It has a curved yellow beak with a black tip. The tail feathers are black and grey stripes.

Look at Cooper’s Hawk.

Holly Faulkner, Project Assistant says:

Hi Laura, This is either a Cooper’s Hawk or a Sharp-shinned Hawk with a leucistic patch on its head. You can read more about Leucism here. The two hawk species are difficult to tell apart, so we recommend checking out our Tricky Bird ID page for these species.
