Description

Our backyard feeder attracts many redpolls at this time of year, both common and hoary. Beginning February 14, this unusually colored redpoll arrived with the other redpolls. I saw it perched in a near-by aspen tree and at first glance thought it was a clump of snow. It soon was down on the ground, feeding with the other redpolls. Although the redpolls in our area display a wide variety of coloring, I have never seen one like this.

Species

White-headed Redpoll
