Participant Photo: A family of Canada Geese spend time at the pond
Additional images:
In front of my house, I have a meadow that contains a pond. A few years ago, a Canada Goose pair nested there and produced seven goslings. I have a feeling that they, or their offspring, revisit our pond. Although there was no nest visible, there was one nearby, because a pair of Canada Geese have been regularly bringing their brood of goslings to spend time at the pond.
I knew that as long as the goslings were young, the adults wouldn’t fly off, so on one occasion when I saw the family there, I got my camera, slowly walked down to the pond, and sat in a chair on the pond’s opposite bank. They didn’t seem to mind my being there, so I spent several minutes shooting photos of the family group. It was an overcast, drizzly day, but the photos are not too bad.
