Participant Photo: A young visitor, September, 2022

One early September morning I went out to the garden. I looked up to see this young bird on my fence post. The bird seemed quite calm and even let me go inside to get my camera. This is a young Red Shouldered hawk. Too close to the house for his sake. After it flew off, and about a half hour afterwards, I saw it on the telephone wire lines facing the busy road. Across the road will be a much better place to live and hunt. Wish this beautiful bird could catch some of my gophers and moles though.
