Here in Tennessee I only see the Yellow-shafted.
Hi, this is actually an intergrade Northern Flicker, meaning it is a cross between a red-shafted and yellow-shafted Flicker. You can tell because it has the red spot on its nape and a red whisker. Red-shafted Northern Flickers only have a red whisker and lack the spot on their nape like yellow-shafted flickers.
